Opened on 1 July 1922, the historic Teatro Maria Vitoria, named after a fado singer who died at a young age in 1915, was at the center of Lisbon’s “Broadway” district.
A variety of singers, actors and musicians have performed over the years, including the fado singer, Amalia Rodrigues, in 1940.
In 1986, the theater suffered a devastating fire and moved temporarily to the Teatro Maria Matos. It reopened in 1990.
Today, it continues to present theatrical reviews.
